Power Rangers Preservation Project Q&A - Text version

Note that I also will have a video version with some samples of what they have at the time both this blog post and the video was made.

QUESTIONS WERE ASKED TO THE PEOPLE WHO RUN THE "MORPHIN' MUSEUM" YOUTUBE ACCOUNT ON THE TOPIC OF THEIR "POWER RANGERS PRESERVATION PROJECT" VIA EMAIL WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THEY'D ANSWER AFTER THE WINTER HOLIDAYS

THE EMAIL WITH THEIR RESPONSES CAME TODAY (NEW YEARS OF 2025), WHICH I'LL PUT HERE:

1.  What caused/motivated the beginning of the Power Rangers Preservation Project?
The Preservation Project was essentially motivated by having access to hundreds of VHS tapes and DVDs recovered from production; some with never-before-seen footage. Similar to how the museum in general began from a desire to share our collection with the public, the motivation behind preserving the footage was to make sure it was seen by fans before it became lost. The vast majority, if not all of those tapes, are not one-of-a-kind; so there could still be other copies out in the wild collecting dust. But they may never be recovered, so we didn't want to take the existence of these tapes for granted.

2.  How do you find this rare stuff?
We've been collecting for 30 years, and a lot of our artifacts were acquired from being in the right place and the right time. Some of those acquisitions were random and by chance, while others were intentional and born from decades of building relationships. Regardless, the short answer really is "luck."

3.  Out of the stuff you HAVEN'T gotten the chance to upload yet, (without directly spoiling) what are you looking forward to showing off later on.
We're looking forward to sharing some long-teased long lost footage from Forever Red this year, some new footage from Time Force, plus also getting to dive further into the digitized records to see what other buried treasure lies in these tapes. The digitization and archival process alone just hit the two year milestone, with much more work still to be done. Digitization and archival is a multi-step process; which is to say, there are still a lot of tapes that haven't been reviewed.

4.  How do the videos first come, format wise, and what's the process like digitizing them for Youtube?
Most everything has been VHS, with a few DVD records thrown in. Power Rangers Media Info dutifully ingests and digitizes them in real-time, which is the most cumbersome part of the process as it requires both preserving and encoding at the highest quality levels and then formatting for online/internal review for clip pulls.

5.  About how big is the Morphin' Museum/PRPP team?
Difficult to answer this question definitively, other than to say probably much smaller than you think. We have a network of friendlies who help bring the PRPP to life; it's allowed talented specialists in their fields to focus on specific elements of preservation — one for digitization, another for editing, and a third for VFX, for example.

6.  Is there any way fans can help, if they can't donate money?
Outside of any monetary or physical donations to the museum, the best way for fans to support us really is sharing out content and engaging with exhibits on social media/subscribing to our channels. Those interactions will help us increase our reach and exposure, which will hopefully continue to allow us to expand our footprint and save as much as we can.

7.  Not relating to the project itself, but what's your favorite PR season?
We have a variety of personal favorites, and love something about each season; but probably Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, Ninja Storm, SPD, RPM, or Dino/Cosmic Fury.

8.  What piece of media that's been either posted or is in the restoration/digitizing process would you say is your favorite?
For its historic value, probably the MMPR Pitch with unseen Bio-Man Pilot footage. Personally, it's probably the Careers in Power Rangers Series that gives a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the show, featuring a number of franchise forefathers.

Have you seen the Zyu 2 footage seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91BoKNRb2uY and here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZs9LRBIT9c&pp=ygUGenl1IDIg prior to me linking these two videos? We've seen clips before, and John Green's Zyu2 Guide, but have not watched these at length. Thanks for sharing!
